HOSPITAL MATTERS.

COMMITTEE MEETING. A meeting of tho Hospital Committee of tho Wellington Hospital and Charitable Aid Hoard was held yesterday afternoon. Mr. J. Smith presided. ?

It was recommended that Dr. Fyffo bo asked to continue lectures to the nursing staff as advised by tho medical superintendent, and that at the end of the year a payment of 25 guineas be ( made to him.

Tho Rev. Mr.'Elliot, speaking in reference to this recommendation, criticised the' proposed payment. When the vote was taken Mr. Elliot and Mr. Castle voted against it. In reference to a recommendation (which was carried) that tenders bo invited for the alterations as suggested bv the medical superintendent to tho Seddon Shelters, Mr. Gardener stated that it seemed absurd that there should be two consumptive institutions (one at Wellington and 0110 at Otaki) undor one board. It should bo referred to a committee to investigate as to whether tho Otaki institute could not be used for all the consumptives. The return of in-patients for the Hospital was reported as follows (the number for tho corresponding period last year being in parentheses):—-To September 29, 291 (310); admitted, 121 (177); discharged, 123 (180); still in, 289 (307). It was decided to give effect to tlio following recommendations: —That a skylight be put in the nurses' home to improve ventilation and lighting; that tho sum of £80 bo authorised for the purchase of Christmas goods and presents for patients and inmates at tho Hospital; that circumstances of tho case of Driver Wilson, who had been incapacitated since ho was vaccinated, be placed in tlio hands of tho board's solicitors to ascertain the board's position in regard to any claim for compensation. It was reported that £5 had boon received from an anonymous donor and that a final dividend of £17 18s. Id., bequest from tho late Thomas Rusknidge, had been received from tho Public Trustee.'

It 1 was also reported that the_ contract for the erection of out-patients' and pathological block had been completed. . Tho Otaki committee reported that 10 patients had been admitted to the Hospital, while 10 had been discharged, and nine wcro under treatment. There had been one death. In the sanatorium seven had been admitted and the samo number discharged, while 18 were under treatment. i

The same committee also reported that tho proceeds from an entertainment held at Otaki, amounting to £0 175., had been donated to the local hospital by Mr. W. F. Edwards. The donor is to be thanked and informed that a special surgical bed and bed trolly had been purchased with ,tho money, which amount carried a Government subsidy of 245. in the £. Authority was given for tho purchaso of 15 bods for the Otaki Hospital.
