Mr. T). H. GUTHRIE (Oroua) gave jiotice to ask , the Minister of Defence whether he would consider the advisability ' of exempting members of established fire brigades from military service. : Experience had shown, Mr. Guthrie stated, that it was difficult to maintain. the efficiency ;of provincial brigades when members had to comply with ; the requirements oh the Defence ■Act.' Mr. J. COLVIN (Duller) gave notice to ask whether a Mines Apt Amendment Bill would be> introduced this session. | .BUILDING SOCIETIES. MILLAR (Dunedin West) gave notice to ask the Government whether they would this session introduoe legislation exempting build--, ing societies from tho operation/ of the Gaming Act. Under the present law, : he stated, every time an officer of a building society took part in any ballot ■ he became liable to a heavy penalty. / PREMIUM BONDS. Mr. "J. PAYNE (Grey _ Lynn) gave notice to ask the. Prime Minister whether ,ho would take steps to compel the company that liad been selling premium bonds in tho Dominion to refund the sums paicl by purchasers. MEDICAL INSPECTORS. Mr. .T.' K. SIDEY (Dunedin South) gave notice to ask whether it was in--tendeil to increase the number of medi- ! cal inspectors,-and if so by how many. THE LICENSING BILL. , Mr. J. A. HANAN* (Invercargill) gave notice to ask the Government why the introduction of • an imnortant measure like the Licensing Bill was :' . being'delayed. \ . PAYMENTS TO JUDGES. A number of returns were ordered. One of them, asked for by Mr. H.
