MARAROA QUITS FERRY SERVICE. On arrival at Wellington from Lyttelton on Thursday, October 23, tho Union Company's Mararoa, which has been a favourite etoainer in the ferry service for many years, will withdraw from the running indefinitely. Tho Manuka, which' will be on route from Sydney to southern ports, Hobart, and Melbourne, will not leave Wellington for Lyttelton till 8 p.m. on October 23. Sho will act as ferry steamer on that evening. Leaving Dunedin on Thursday next tho Maori, which has been undergoing an extensive overhaul at Port Chalmers, will arrivo at Lyttelton on October 24, and wiU sail for Wellington tho same evening. She wiU toko up tho ferry running w coitjunction with tho Wahlno.
Tho Union Company advise that their chartered steamer Canada Cape should leave Puget Sound on Tuesday next to load a full cargo of fruit at San Francisco for Wellington and Sydney. Sho should reach Wellington about November 20.
It is tlic intention, of tho Kaiapoi Steam Shipping Company to make arrangements whereby they hope to maintain a fortnightly scrvico to llokitika.
Tiio launch Muritai, which has .iust completed an extensive overhaul at Auckland, fins left for Dick's Bay in tow of the coastal steamer Squall. Tho Muritai will bo employed in tendering tho steamers of the Union, Company and Huddart-Parlier Company at tho bay mentioned. It is eipectod that when tho Maori arrives at Lyttelton from Dunedin to resume running in the ferry service, tho Wahino will bo withdrawn for painting, eto., in dock.
