' (From Our Special Correspondent.) A meeting of-the Hutt District High School Committee was hold last evening. A communication from the Education Board asking for information regarding tho boundary between the eastern and western divisions of tho Hutt district in the event of the board establishing tho Eastern Hutt as a separate school, and also asking what numbers attended in certain standards, was discussed. . After a report" had been submitted by the headmaster on tho matter, it was decided to reply stating that the boundary in tho event of.thd schools being separated was suggested as all the area on the south side of Laing's Bead in a direct lino east and west, to the northern boundary of tho Fitzherbert Estate. Tho number of children attending thu classes is to bo supplied. The inspector's report showed that the standard of efficiency had been well maintained. At tho beginning of tho year, the work' was carried on by the first assistant, Mr. Ballacboy owing to tho illness oF Mr. Yeats (headmaster), and tho staff are commended on tho skilful manner in which they carried out their duties in his absence. A tribute to Mr. Yeats (who after a 80 years' successful career terminates his connection with the board in December next) was also paid. Tho headmaster's report showed that tho averago attendance for the quarter was: —Primary—4B9 on roll of 52G; secondary, 18 —roll 19 in the main school. In Eastern Hutt—Primary, 136, roll number 154. It was also stated that the school would go into grade 10 (tho highest salary grado that there is) at tho beginning of next year.
. It was decided t-o hold a bazaar 011 November 21 nnd 22 in the school, mid that Mr. T. 11. Wilford, M.P., bo asked to open it. A concert in aid of tbo school funds will be held lit. St. James's Hal! on Friday next. \
A garden party in connection with the Women's Christian Tomperanco Union was held at Mrs. Corner's, Nelson Street, yesterday afternoon. Thoro wero about 50 peoplo prosont, and a most enjoyable afternoon was spent. During the afternoon an address was given by tbo Rev. Mr. Lewis, also a solo by Miss Rouse, and several other items wero given. A feature of tho afterndon was a guessing competition, which was won by Mrs. J. Battesby. Mrs. Rouse was in the chair.
At_ tho Hope of Petono Lodge last evening a visit from the district executive was officially received. Bro. S'. Taylor, C.T., opened the lodpre, and Bro. Ingram, D.C.T., then took tho meeting over. There was a good attendance.
