CRICKET. DOMINION TEAM SELECTED. AUSTRALIAN TRIP, (By Teleeraph.—Frees Aesooiation.) Christchuroh, October 15. The Selection Committee, which mot in Wellington last evening, has selected the following players for the New Zealand team to visit Australia: — 'Auckland—L. G. Henvus, N. C. Sueddon, L. G. Taylor, and H. Tatters,ill. Wellington—C. Robinson and D. C. Collins. Canterbury—D. Reese, W. R. Patrick,, R. G. Hickmott, D. Sandman, C. Boxshall, and J. H, Bennett. Otago—B. J. Tuckwell. . ■ , The team will leave Wellington for Sydney on December 5. NOTES ON THE PLAYERS. B. Tuokwell (Otago) hails from Victoria, where he had a brilliant career with the St. Ivilda Club, and represented Victoria. Business prevented him from paying much attention to the game there. Ho arrived in Dunediu about eighteen months,ago, and figured with credit in Otago representative crickot last season. Ho is a finished bat of tho Australian typo, and bowls a fair, slow ball.
J. H. Bennett, fast bowler, has played for Canterbury for tho past fourteen or fifteen years. C. Boxshall (Canterbury) is -the veteran wicket-keeper, who (it is understood) is being taken on tho scoro of long experience. A much younger keeper is being taken as understudy. D. Sandman (Canterbury) is described by one who has seen his play as the most promising and brilliant allround young player in tho Dominion. He bowls a leg-break with an occasional googlio, is u dashing bat, and a great field at point.
W. It. Patrick (Canterbury) is a comparatively young player, a stylish bat, who lias had much success in interprovincial matches ill tho last three or four years.
R. G. Hickmott also is a young player. He is a fine Dat. and is reputed to bo the best outfield in New Zealand.
D. Reese (Canterbury) is one of the Dominion's best-known cricketers. He began his cricket career when sixtcon in Christchurch,.. then played in Melbourne for three'years, and afterwards went to England, where ho represented Essex in 1900. Since his return to New Zealand in 1907 lie has always represented Canterbury. D. C. Collins is a Wellington selection, who has not figured on tho Wellington playing fields for some years. He first played for Wellington in 1907, just after' leaving AVellington College. On his first representative appearance he made 57 not' out (against Canterbury) on a bad wicket—a fine porformance. In 1903 lie wont to England, and played for Cambridge University, whore ho obtained his blue, and a couple of seasons ago he was the best bat of his sido. Against Oxford inst year he scored a double half century. 11l University and county matches ho averaged over forty runs for tho season.
C. Robinson (Wellington), fastmedium bowler, is an alert field, and a big hitter.
L. G. Hemus (Auckland) is thought by some to be the most successful batsman in interprovincial matches during tho past four or five years. He is a bat of the steady typo. N. C. Snedden (Auckland) is a.promising young northorner —said to be tile most promising colt New Zealand has found for some years. One of his assets is that big cricket suits him. L. Taylor (Auckland), another colt, still in his teens (or thereabouts), jumped to fame with a great innings of 92 not out against Canterbury last season. Ho is a fair chango slow bowler, but a somowhat inactive field.
H. Tattersall (Auckland) goes as second wicket-keeper. He too, is a young player. He kopt stumps for Auckland against Hawke's Bay last season, and did well.
JUNIOR MATCH LIST. The junior championship fixtures for October 18 and 25 are: —North v. Petono, at Petone; Brooklyn v. Hutt, at Hutt; Old Boys v. Wellington College, at College Ground; Artillery, v. Porirua Asylum, at Porirua; East v. Victoria College, at Basin' Reserve No. 4; Central, a bye.
WAREHOUSEMEN'S MATCHES. The following aro the fixtures for tlio Warehousemen's Association for Saturday:—Telephone Exchange A v. "N.Z. Times," at Newtown Park; Telephone Exchange B v. Electric Light, at Newtown Park; N.Z. Railways A v. A. E. Kernot's, at Wakefield Park (Duppa Street); N.Z. Railways Bv. Goliinand Co., at Wakefield Park' (Duppa Street); (The Dominion" v. United, at Anderson Park; Occidental v. Whitcombo and Tombs, at Kelburno Park.
THIRD CLASS MATCHES. The following are the fixtures for the third class championship for Saturday: —Petone" v. St. David's, at" Petono; Old Boys A v. Wellington College A, at College; Old Bovs B v. .Tohnsonville. at Johnsonville; East v. Karori, at Karori; Institute Old. Boys v. Central-A, at Kelburno Park: North v.
