Hitherto tho championship lias not been won by an amateur, but to-day's play leaves 11. Gillies, a New Zealand (representing tho Woking Club) in a fair way of winning. In his piny ho outshone his opponents, and finished first with 75 —a record for tho course. Tho score of. Gassiat, the holder of tlio championship, was 76, thoso of Braid, Dmican, Tom Ball, and Massey 79, and Taylor 81. In the second round tho aggregates are: Gillies 151, Sherlock 153, Gassiat and Braid 15;1 Massey 156, Duncan 107, Taylor ; 158, Ball 159.
