The first round of tho contest for tho Alcock professional tournament was completed last night, when a fair number of spectators gathered at the firm's showrooms to witness the contest between Forrest (Gisborne) v. Brewer. The game was of a much better standard than on the previous evening. Forrest, setting the.pace, compiled n neat run of 30 off a "fluko." His other efforts wore 29, 20, 24, 24, and 24, unfinished. To-night Forrest will meet Darby in the commencement of tho second round. The other heats are: Thursday—M'Calliun v. Burke; Friday—Legatt v. Martin; Monday—Hickcy v. Bowie. All games commence at 7.30 p.m. sharp.
