OHIRO HOME FIRE RISK.

IS AMOUNT ADEQUATE?

Okiro Home and outbuildings are covered by firo insurance to tho amount of '£8450, and A. H., Truebridge, superintendent of the Charitable Aid 'Branch of the Wellington Hospital and Charitable' Aid Board considers this amount inadequate. In presenting tho financial report on. this branch of the work for the half-year ended Septembor SO last, at yesterday's meeting of tho committee, tho superintendent gave some particulars of tho ' insuranco against fire of the Home,. Tho insurances on the main homo are: —Centre £3500, south wing £1100, arid north ,wing £1200, making a total of £5800, and the insurance on tho outhouses, furniture, personal property, and stock of wearing apparel, brings the total to '£8450. Mr. Truebridgo recommended that as the central portion of tho Home cost inbout £6000 to build, and was only insured for _ £3500, the • insured amount should be increased by £1000. He also recommended an increase in the present insured amount of £350 on the washhouse and drying-rooms, the latter costing about £600 to build. ■ In recommending the increases, Mr. Truebridgo Stated that the enormously increased cost of building since tho insurances were effected must bo taken into account. In conclusion, tho report stated:—"While on the subject, I think it .would be a good thing if the board .would authorise an inspection by tho (superintendent of the City' Fire Brigade, of the fire appliances in and about tho home. Special points that occur to me are that the hose attachments are Jiot. interchangeable, and tho hose caniiot, therefore, he linked up. Also, 'there are no stand-pines nor coupling gear outside the building. Tho positions of tho corporation fire-plugs might be clearly ascortainod and unmistakably marked at tho same time." Tho committee adopted tho report.
