Dr. P. D. Bird, of Melbourne, who, in addition to Sir Alexander JlacCormick, of Sydney, lias been matin a Follow of tho Royal College of Surgeons of England, lias returned' to Australia from England. The Royal, College of Surgeons, by its charter, has power to make of) honorary Fallows. Until recently there were not more than 22 persons who had. this distinction. Tho two gentlemen named are tho only Australians who have been thus honoured by tho Royal College. Each recipient had to travel to London in order to receive tho distinction personally, so that tho Australians have traversed a distance of 24,000 miles for the purpose of scouring tho diploma of Fellowship. When performing the ceremony of presentation, Sir Rickfan D. Godlee, nrpsident of tho Royal College of Surgeons, stated that they were roceivine tho highest honour that England could give to medical men.
