HUTT BOROUGH COUNCIL.
'I ho Lower Hutt Borough Council met last evening, the Mayor (Mr. E. P. Bunny) presiding. Councillors Ball, Hobbs, Parsonage, Glendoii, Meldrum, Hodgins, and .Dawson, wero also, present.
'Tho Foxtou Borough Council w;rote asking support to an amendment of the Jlunicipal Corporations Act, to include moving picture shows, in the words "amusement and instruction," under section 299 of the Act. It was decided to support tho amendment. A communication dealing with tho question of the control of tho Hutt Road was received from the Minister of Railways (tho Hon. W. Herries). The letter stated that for the present tho control had been vested in the Wellington City Council, but the matter was still under consideration. Tho Mayor stated that ho was opposed to tho Wellington City Council having control of the road, and he favoured setting up a controlling board, comprising representatives of tho local bodies interested. Tho letter was received and a motion affirming the Mayor's opinion was carried. An application by Mrs. Wilford for the uso of the Recreation Ground for tlia annual sports of tlie Fitzherbort Terrace School, for November 14, was granted. The secretary of the Wel'ington Rugby Football Leagno wrote forwarding a cheque for £2 135., being 50 per cent, of tho gato receipts taken at League matches played in tho borough.—Received. Four cases of chicken-pox in tho borough were reported by a letter from tho Wellington Hospital and Charitable Aid Board.—Received. Tho Borough Engineer (Mr. W. 0. Roche) reported that the work of scarifying and generally improving and repairing the roads in the borough was being proceeded with. Tho work of minimising the danger at the railway crossing was almost completed, and tlie cost to dato was £15 2s. 2d. Sinco tho last meeting of the council three connections had been made with the gas mains, and two with tho water mams, making a total numbe™ of water connections to date 945. Somo 808 permits have bee'i issued under tho Drainage and Sanitary By-laws. The report was adopted. Tlie Hutt County Council wrote declining to admit liability in connection with tho Western Hutt Road.—Received.
