IMPRESSED.

——0 HOME ISI.P. ON COLONIAL FORCES. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Auckland,. October 13. Mr. L. S. Amery, a member of the Houso of. Commons who has been visiting Australia and is now in Now Zealand, said in an interview that ho saw 20,000 cadets marching past Parliament Houso in Melbourne. He wished tho whole of tho British bouse of Commons had been on- the steps to see it. Ho was immensely impressed by tho Duntrpon Military College. So long as New Zealand has no college of its own there is 110 place, in his opinion, to whiaji its future officers can bo sent with greater advantage, either in the Empire or out-side of it. It would be a good thing for tho naval force of the Empiro to draw its men and material from every part of the Empire, and each Dominion should he a centre of naval strength. Mr. Amery will spend fifteen days in the Dominion before returning to Australia. Speaking of his Australian tour, Mr. Amery said that tho party was received with the most generous hospitality everywhere, and oy a well-ar-ranged programme it was able to see a great deal of Australia. The constant travelling was strenuous, but all felt that it wa3 fully compensated by tho opportunity of seeing so much"l was greatly impressed with tho possibilities, of Australia," said Mr. Amery. "At- Homo .wo hear an enormous amount about Canada and its possibilities, and possibly liav© gained tho impression that Australia's resources aro rather moro limited, especially by a want of sufficient rainfall. Our visit has mado us all realise that thore is no- reason why Australia should not bear quite as largo a population as Canada; especially when dry farming and othor scientific methods have opened up all tho great areas in the Ulterior that aro at pre3 : .>nt given over only to grazing. " Tho obvious need for more population to develop tho resources of tho country impressed us all," continued Mr'. Amery, " and ill that connection there is need for a bold policy of railway development and settlement organisation which would mako theso resources available." ■ / From Auckland Mr. Amery proceeded to Rotovua by this morning's express, and -after visiting Wairakei will arrive in Wellington, on Friday. There ho, will spend four or five days. From Wellington Mr. Amery will proceed through tho South Island to join ft steamer at tho Bluff on October 27.
