THE HUTT GAS POSITION.
FINALITY REACHED. After months of negotiations the extension of the existing gas agreement for a further term of seven years between tho Petono and Hutt Borough Councils has beon practically agreed to. The _ resolution passed at tho special meeting of tho Hutt Borough Council last Monday came before the Petono Borough Council at its meeting last oveuing. A motion was passed there and it agrees with another motion carriod by the Hutt Borough Council, which body also met last night. It will bo seen from roading tho motions given below that all that remains now is for, tho agreement to bo signed.
The motion carried at tho Petono Council reads a : s follows"That tho provision of a booster plant in duplication, and of tho four inches of gas pressure, asked for, bo agreed to, but that as the cost of the provision of an extra 'booster in lieu of tho eight-inch 'main as agreed, doos not lessen tho expenditure agreed upon thero is no money available to hand over. Moreover, this council is advised that such procedure would bo illegal."'_ Tho Hutt Borough Council's motion, also carried, reads as follows!—" That if tho Petono Borough Council provide two boosters, with the necessary buildings, tho Hutt Borough - Council will aficept the same in lieu of tho proposal to lay down an eight-inch pipo m place of the six-inch pipe. Provided such is done, tho agreement to be signed by4he Hutt Council." ')
