RAILWAY TO TAUPO.
PRIVATE LINE EXTENSION. ' The chairman of directors of the Taupo Timber Company (Mr. P. J. Dalziell) states that as the result of negotiations with the .Government an'Or-der-in-Council has been issued authorising tho_ company to extend its light railway line (Putaruru-Mokia) on from Mokai to Taupo, a distance of-twenty miles. Tho company now believes itself to be in a position to finance the completion of tlio railway, and for that reason has not approached tlio Government to assist it. by guaranteeing the moneys necessary for that purpose. The new lino will not only open up a vast tract of pumice country, put will form a new link in tlio chain of railways that will one day form a loop line (from tho Main Trunk track), making Taupo and the wonders of tho TVairakel Valloy accessible by rail without having to travel twice over the 6amo track. ' - The Parliamentary. Committee appointed somd months ago to investigate the matter of the'extension, of the lino to Taupo recommended that tho Government should guarantee the company the cost of tlio railway.,/ That guarantee was not to oxceed £50,000, estimated to be the cost of the construction of tho track, and providing it with rolling stock. That guarantee fs not now being asked for.
