A DOG, SOME MOTORS AND A CROWD.
AN ORIENTAL BAY COMEDY. A diminutive canine of the mongrel species was a source of great amusement as well as of great annoyance around Oriental Bay yesterday afternoon. Ho appeared, apparently from nowhere, as tlieso animals invariably do, and his blaso somi-dignificd air at once attracted 'the attention of tho usual Sunday afternoon frequenters of tho grassy slopes of hillside near Point Jermngham. Ho slowly and unconcernedly waddled to tho centre of the road and after a moment's thought languidly stretched himself at full length upon it. It was not long however before bis siosta was rudely interrupted. A faint "honk I honk" sounded in the distance. Tho crowd on the hill grow expectant. Tho whirl of wheels grew closer, and soon a taxi going at a fair speed hove into view. The driver sighted tho recumbent, animal, and at once the horn sounded allow. Not a muscle stirred in tho small form blocking the road; the pup might have been gnawing at a meaty bone so oblivious was it to its surroundings. The motor was now a few yards from it, and tho driver, evidently a humane person, pulled up. Tho grinding of Wakes, the close proximity of repeated "honk honks" had their effect. The pup raised its head in a bored manner and slowly and painfully, albeit a triflo angrily, 'waddled out of tho way. Tho motor proceeded on its journey, tho _ crowd smiled; and tho dog returned to its former position. Again and again tho process was repeated, tho motor hovo into sight, sounded its horn, slowed down, and proceeded again on its interrupted course. Tho crowd was enjoying it immonsoly, tho pup however was the first to grow weary of tho little comedy, and after a particularly close sliavo from a motor that failed to slow down, ho disappeared as suddenly as ho had como into. view.
