(Prom Our SpeoiaJ Correspondent.) r-4 BURGLARY AT THE HUTT. Between 10.30 and midnight on Saturday, Messrs. Hayes and M'Keague's motor garage. Main Road, Lower Hutt, was broken into. ■ Mr. M'Keaguo loft tlio premises at about 10.30 p.m. after locking up. A resident passing by from tlio midnight train noticed tlio wicket door in the main entrance open, and informed Mr. M'Keague, who lives adjacent. It appeaiß that an entrance was made near tlio rear of the garago by wrenching off several boards that were temporarily blocking up a doorway ill a wing of tho building. The would-be thief had then made for the office in search of plunder. Opening the till, he was rewarded by discovering the sum of 7sd., which lie removed. A silver matchbox and two gold bands from a watch guard were also taken. After securing four American and one English sparking plugs, tho _ intruder unscrewed the latcli of-tlie wicket and departed. Mr. M'Keaguo values tho articlos together at about 30s. Tho Hutt police aro of the opinion that the affair is tlio work of boys requiring "cracker money." How they overlooked several valuablo articles within "reach is a mystery. COMEDY CLUB. The performance by the Potono Comedy Club of "Tom, Dick and H,irry" in aid of tho Band and School Committee resulted in a credit balance of about £(3 6s. It is understood ihat £6 6s. had to bo paid for tho dramatic "rights" of this comedy,- thus making the expenditure side somewhat heavy. The beneficiaries aro grateful to tho club for their efforts to assist. FOOTBALL CLUB SMOKE CONCERT. On Saturday evening the members of the Petone Football Association held a smoke concert to wind up the season. Tlio usual toasts were honoured, and Mr. H. Brown, who presided, gave a brief outline of the year's lhe number of matches played was 25; 17 were won, five lost, and three drawn. The juniors were runners-up for. tho championship, losing it by one point The junior Charity Cup was lost by 3 to 2. In his speech Mr. Brown said it was to bo regretted that the 'Wellington Football Association was conspicuous by its absence. Invitations had boon sent but no reply received. During tho evening tho following trophies were presented by the president: —Best hack (Mr. Steward's trophy), C. Gledhill; best forward (Mr. Home's trophy), A. Bond; most improved player (Mr. Jenness's trophy), J. Ingham. Messrs. M'Gill, M'Neil, Goodhall, and MLeod contributed musical items, and Mr. Head presided at the piano. .
