TRAM CONDUCTOR IN JOKED,

THE FOOTBOARD AGAIN.

A rather serious accident befell tram conductor S. Troppear shortly after 11 p.m. on Saturday. He was in tho act of collecting fares on a palace and in so doing it was'necessary for him to bo on tho footboard. JTho car, which was bound for Seatoun, was crowded at tho time, and when rounding tho corner of Elizabeth and Brougham Streets, it gave a sudden jolt, with tho result that Troppear was thrown heavily to tho roadway. First aid was rendered by Nurso Reynolds (who.was a passenger on tho car), until the arrival of a doctor. The injured man, who is about 28 years of age, was removed to tho hospital in an unconscious state. He is suffering from concussion, of the brain and concussion of tho spine. Last evening the hospital authorities reported that Troppear had regained consciousness, and was a gqod deal bolx ter. ' . Tho injured conductor, who is a single man, resides at No. 7 Angus Avenue.

RESCUED FROM DROWNING. 'A hoy named Aitkon, aged 18 months, son of Mr. Norman li. Aitkon, bookseller, Courtenay Place, was rescued from drowning by Frederick Danes, a Corporation omployeo, _ yesterday afternoon. In company with soveral other little chaps, Aitken visited tho dock site and commenced playing ,when ho accidentally foil in. The other boys screamed for help, and Mr. Davies, bearing tho call, jumped into tho water, and rescuod the boy. Constablo M'Kelvio, who also heard the call, brought the boy to tho Clyde Quay Polico Station, where, after a hot bath, he was able to proceed to his home, none tho worso for his immersion.
