SUFFERS IN THE GALE.
It should not take many gales such »s tho one experienced on Friday to batter tho Devon to pieces. During ' yesterday's calm tho wreck was boarded by some local yachtsmen, who report that the steamer was battored considerably by the heavy southerly seas that broke, all over her as she lies pinned to the rocks under Pencarrow Head. The vessels counter is now almost perpendicular,' instead of horizontal. This has been brought about by the weakening of the decks that would, as long as they remained intact, act as stiffening stays to the ' superstructure. It was found that tho w"holo of the afterdeck as far forward as the after-hold had completely disappeared, and the 'tween decks aft had buckled so badly that they now sagged in tho contro. The boat-deck amidships had been considerably torn away, and ono of the big wooden defrrocks aft had been snapped in half. Tho forward part of the vessol is still intact, but she seemed to bo Je3s secure in her position on the Tocks.
