ANDELOSIA WINS THE GAULFIELD GUINEAS. (Rec. October 12, 5.0 p.m.) Melbourne, October 11. Ideal weather ushored in tho Spring Meeting of tho Victorian A.J.C. in Melbourne, but as 'tlio afternoon wore on it became cold, with a sprinkling of rain. As usual, tho clash with tho Sydney meeting robbed tho fixture of somo of its former brilliancy. Tho general entries wcro somcwliat disappointing, intor-stato competition being limited. With tho exception of tho first race, tho fields wero small. However, the indications undoubtedly show that racing is becoming nioro popular every year, tho only effeet of anti-gambling legislation boing to make tho betting ring busier. Tho gathering on tlio courso was a fashionable one. though Government Houso representation was limited to tlio Lioutonant-Govenior.

Tlio programme opened favourably, with a big field of twenty-five. This was a good race, the winner, who was always handy, drew away at tlio distance, and won comfortably. l''or the Debutante Stakes the field was tlio smallost on rccord. Spica's weight inoludod a 101b. poualty, and it was therefore thought tlurt ho would.

Kidalton and Andelosia were together, with Scotch Malt, Singlestick, lMaltage, and Kingburgh close up. Andelosia then went to tho front and coming round tho turn led from Kidalton, Singlestick, Eubulus, Scotch Malt, and won easily by a length with three lengths between second and third. Valido, by Veles —Slaveaway, 4yrs., Bst. sio 1 Mintstone, 7st. lib .'. 2 Flaith, 7st. 131b 3 Also started: Ireland, Aleconner, Ptah, Tho Lintio,Avonwort, Greek Fire, Pock-o'-Maut, Indiscreet, Yeiieda, Goldfin Goblot, and Field General. Valido took charge after the furlong and was never headed. After the halfmile l'eck-o'-Maut was second, then Field General, Ireland, Aleconner, Greek Fire, Flaith, Indiscreet, Yencda, and Avonwort. Round the turn Ireland ran into third place, followed by Aleconner, Flaitli, Yeiieda, and Mintstone.
