FOUR FIVE-GUINEA SUITS A YEAR.
-i .. CLERKS AND THEIR CLOTHES BILL. By TekßraDh.—Press Aesoolation—Copyright Perth, October 8. The Arbitration Court is considering the claim of tho Clerks' Union for a minimum of £4 a week for males and females over twenty-one years of ago. Evidenco was given, that seven unmarried clerks, receiving 50s. a week, averaged lGs. a week on clothing, and that twenty-two married men, averaging £4 10s. a week, spent tho same. Mr. Justice Burnside said that he did not spend 15s. a week on clothing, and it, was absurd for youths to say: that they spent £40 or £50 a year on clothes. Clerks did not want four suits a year at five guineas each, for everyday work. It was no good_ spoonfeeding them with packets of cigarettes and visits on tbreo nights. a week to music halls. Mr. Justice Burnside added that bank clerks ought to get £4 a week, but often did not.
