NAVY LEAGUE NOTES.
The following is an extract from a letter recoived by tho local branch secretary of the Navy League from the headmaster of one of the leading secondary schools in the South Island:—"l am more and more satisfied that wo schoolmasters have a paramount obligation to . emphasise the ideal of Imperial unity to our young charges, and to familiarise them with all outstanding international questions, so as to weed o.ut the cur.se of parochialism." There is a very strong branch of tho Navy League at the school from which the letter comes.
Another big secondary school, King's College, Auckland, has recently formed a sub-branch of the league, and literature is being supplied to them from Wellington. In a letter thanking the local branch for a Captain Scott memorial card and magazines of tlie league, tho headmaster says:—"Your gift to tho boys was received with hearty applause. It is good to know that there is a branch in New Zealand that can encourage the Imperialistic spirit, irrespective of province." Tho question as to whether the Navy League of Wellington will arrange any special function in honour of Trafalgar Day (Octobor 21) is in abeyance. Last year an arrangement was arrived at whereby tho juvenile mombers of tho league were treated to a special display of naval pictures at ono of tho local theatres. It is understood that, something similar might bo arranged for the afternoon, if schoolmasters . interested are agreeable.
