SHOPS BROKEN INTO.

Telegraph.—Special Correspondent.) . Carterton, October 7. During the early hours this morning the premises of Mr. Baillie, bootmaker, and Mr. Hill, confectioner, were burglariously entered. Entranco was gained through tho back window, tho glass being cut out near tho catch and afterwards, replaced. The stocks 'of both places were ransacked and two pairs of boots are missing from Baillie's, but nothing of great importance was taken from Hill's, the burglar evidently being content with small lines. Patent tills are used in each place, and tho burglar did not attempt to tamper with them. The police were informed, and during tho day arrested a man named Frederick Hunter on suspicion. In tho afternoon he was brought before the Court and remanded till Tuesday, the charge being ono of breaking and entering. Further charges aro penaLng. ___________
