RACING AT RANDWICK. SOLTANO IN FORM. GAGOU WINS THE METROPOLITAN HANDICAP'. RACE RUN IN RECORD TIME. By Toleirapli-Pross Association— OopyrlcM (Ilco. October 0, 6 p.m.) Sydnay, October 6., There was warm, bright weather for tho second day of the Australian Jtickoy Club's Spring Meeting, and tho attendance at Randwick to-day equalled that of Saturday. Tho Governor-General (Lord Denrnan) wa3 again present with Lady Denman. A feature of tho day's racing from the Now Zealand point of view, was the manner in which Soltano retrieved his lost laurels by winning. tho Clibborn Stakes. He started a firm sccond favourite, Radnor being at odds'-on. Solr tano's New Zealand admirers contended that in Saturday's race, the colt did not show anything like his true form. He looked in splendid fettle to-day as if his Derby run had improved him. From the barnor rise ho never left the issue' l in doubt, but set a cracking pace, which ho maintained right to tho post. Oliver to-day pursued tactics different' from those ho pursued on Saturday. Ho let Soltano have his head, and this panned out better—as might have been expected with such a free goer. ; Tho Metropolitan Handicap was a fino race. Cagou, tho winnor, was always prominent, and won without whip or spur. Emperador, ridden by 0.
