Theatrical managers are fond of using the phrase, " juggling with death," but it is safe to say that, until recently, nothing approaching in sensationalism the act of Ben Beno, as seen at the National Amphitheatre (says the Sydney " Sunday Times"), has ever been presented to a sensation-loving public. For sheer daring Beno has no equal After going through a series of feats on the Roman rings with hi 1 ? partners, Beno ascended over the stalls to a trapeze hung from the cross-gir-ders. Hero he elicited rounds of applause by balancing nnd dancing on the swinging trapeze. But something far more exciting was to come. An ordinary kitchen chair was passed up, and seated 011 this while it was poised at various angles, Bono swung backwards and forwards all the time, balancing perfectly. Tho climax came when ho blindfolded himself, and, after swingin" a while, turned a complete somersault, and was then seen to bo banging by his feet, head down, nnd holding tllo chair in his hands. Tho act is sure to bo a big attraction for those who love anything in which the performer appears to run a risk of injury. A heavy iron safe at tho offices of a Paris electrical machinery warehouse, after bein<i partly Mown up by dynamite by burglars in 1910, and broken onen in 1!)12, was lately bodily carried oft with all its contents. Two fishermen reported to the Marseilles police a few weeks ago that they had seen the headless body of a woman floating near the Chateau cl'Jf. The police Itoat put off, and an immense crowd awaited their return with the body. It was a headless .doll which had been used by a kuicmatograph company in a picture of j. murder at eca.
