A fir© at' Grey Lynn on Saturday night gutted a six-roomed house owned and occupied by a widow, Mrs. W. Rogers. Tlio building wa£ insured for £250 in tho State Office, and tho furniture for £100 in tlio Phoenix Office. Mrs. Rogers and lier family wore left destitute through' her husband being killed by boing thrown from a cart ten years ago. Money was collected and a bouso presented to Mrs. Rogers. At tho annual mooting of the Nelson District Fruitgrowers' Association, it was decided to tako steps to inaugurate a national apple show on the lines followed at tho American fruit fairs. A house at Grey Road, owned and occupied by Aaron Carnes, was burnod down at midday. The loss was' a good deal over the insurance. A risk of £100 was held by the State office.
