MASTERTON NOTES.
{ ~ At the annual meeting yesterday afternoon of the Masterton Permanent Investment and Building Society, the report and balance-sheet wero adoptod, and Messrs. A. R. Bunny and James Elliott were re-elected directors. Iho Central Committee of the Wairarapa Hospital Board has appointed Mr. H. Hi Keay, of Wellington, Assistant Inspector of Health. From fifteen applicants, Mr. J. J. Kelliher was yesterday electee! to succeed Mr. Gillespie as secretary of the Masterton Competitions Society. Word was received here yesterday of the death in England, on Saturday, of Mr. Gwynn Williams, fifth son of the late Mr. T. C. Williams, of Wellington. Deceased was married, but leaves no family. Tho ascent of Mount Holdsworth, is already being made by parties of Alpino climbers. The track to tho mountainhouse is in excellent order, and the mountain shrubs are coming into bloom. At the monthly meeting of stewards of the Masterton Racing Club on Saturday, it was decided to raise the price for admission to the lawn for men from 6s. 6d. to 7s. 6d. Final arrangements wero made for the race meeting next week. The proposal to hold a poultry, pigeon, and canary show in Masterton next year is being taken up. At a meeting of the association last night arrangements were made for issuing the. first schedule. ' ' The first of the two qualifying rounds for the Masterton golf championship was'played on Saturday afternoon. Tho best card handed in for the senior division was by Mr. F. N. Elcoate, and in the junior division by Mr. A. D. Gillies. *
