CURRENTS IN COOK STRAIT.
c>— INVESTIGATION ASKED. (By Telegraph.—Special Correspondent.) Wanganui, October 4. Spme time after tho stranding of the Indrabarali on Rangitikei Beach, the Wanganui Harbour Board wrote to tho Marine Department asking that an investigation should bo mado into the currents in Cook Strait. At last night's meeting of the board a letter was received from tlio Department stating that a good deal of inquiry had been made, but no abnormal current had been discovered, and tho bearings taken by Captain M'lntyro (now harbourmaster at Wanganui) during several voyages showed that littlo current was experienced north of Mana Island. Tho Department was, however, endeavouring to obtain further information. Tlio board adopted a resolution nrging tho Department to obtain all possible information, and nlso acceding to a roquost from tho Department to get further information from Captain M'lntyro. Notwithstanding the Department's opinion on tho matter, it is strongly held by many hero that whilo, perhaps, there is no abnormality under ordinary circumstanccs certain combinations of wind and tido do cause a decided sot int-o the Rangitikei Bight.
