bible-in-sohoolb question. At tho meeting of the Wellington Men's Brotherhood yesterday afternoon. Mr. A. R. Atkinson took for his subject "Bible-in-Schools." In introducing the speaker, tho Rov. Knowles-bmith said that he considered that Mr. Atkinson had been much misrepresented and not well treated during the lato controversy on tho question. Mr. Atkinson considered that his position in the city should havo shielded him against misrepresentation. Ho was not against teaching the Bible, but he was against teaching tho Bible and religion in State schools. Tho Speaker said that ho did not beliovo that tho Government should endeavour to put its hand on the question as such a state of affairs would cause strife. Church and State should not interfere with each other and the State should have toloranco for all. If it took up any religion it must adopt someono olso's, for it had none of its own. Voluntary facilities should bo extended and the Bibto taught, not in Stato school time, but after school hours. Tho address embodied statistics and copious demonstrations, and it was listened to by an attentive audienco.
