A Tlmaru Wedding. A pretty wedding took place at St. Mary's Church, Timaru, recently,. when Miss Lorna Day was married to Mr. Eric Wright. The ceromony was performed by the Veil. Archdeacon Jacob. The bride, who was given away by her father, Mr. V. G. Day, wore a very pretty dress of white satin, veil of net. and coronet of orango blossoms, and carried a white shower bouquet. The two bridosmaids, Miss Eva Day and Miss Cartwright, wore white spotted muslin frocks with lace fichus, and carried shower bouquets. Mr. Walter Raymond was best man, and Mr. Moorhouse groomsman. Mrs. Day wore a handsome black satin dress, white hat, and black feather. Amongst those present woro:—Mrs. Craddoclc and Mrs. Mnlfroy, sisters of tho bride, Mrs. Wright (Wellington), Mrs. Blundcll, Mrs. G. Raymond, Mrs. F. Raymond, Mr. and Mrs. F. Barker. Mr. and Mrs. Dimsford, and many otners. Children's Carnival. A successful children's fancy-dress carnival was held in the Drill Hall, Potone, last night m aid of the new Anglican Sunday Schoolroom in Petone East. Tho children wore trained under tho direction of Mr. William Foster, who was assisted by a r.umber of enthusiastic ladies. In addition to various well-known dances, several special items were introduced, notably a minuet, performed by a number of dancers iii costume (under tho management of Mrs. Reid and Miss Johnson); tho Garland of Flowors" (arrangod by Mrs. Scott); tho "Bees and the Butterflies " (Mrs. Foster), and tho "Kangaroo Dance" (Miss Braddock). Mrs. Gate played tho music, and materially assisted in tho success of tho function. At tho conclusion of the programme, the children wero treated to an excellent supper provided by their instructresses. The proceeds will make a substantial addition to the Sunday School funds. Surprise and Birthday Party. The birthday of Miss Nita Clark was tho occasion of a gathering of soma forty of her friends, who, bent upon ushering in the day with a night of gaiety, conceived the idea of springing a surprise party upon tho family tho ovoning before. After the house had been taken possession of, the "invaders" adjourned to tho Goring Street Hall, which had been previously en- • gaged, and dancing and games mad« tho timo pass rery quickly. The health of Miss Nits, Clark wis proposed by Mr. Graeme M'Caul, and a presentation was made by Mr. Paul Eastliam. Songs and recitations followed, and the party dispersed after an evening of' much enjoyment. Bazaar at the Hutt. A bazaar in aid of St. James's organ fund was hold in tho Lyceum, Hall, Lower Hutt, yesterday afternoon. The plain and fanoy stall was under tho management of Mesdames Jones, Parker, and Harris, and tho shilling stall, a wondorful one for bargain-lover? (as most of tho articles are of more value than tho price asked) was held by Mrs. Reeves, Mrs. Haire, and Misses Brown, Humphrey, and Kmgdon. The produce stall was managed by Mrs. Kepple and Mrs. Gibson; The men's stall contained all things from tobacco to eggs, and was in the charge of Messrs. Houso and Aldous. The other stalls were as follow :—Christmas tree, Mrs.' Strachan, Mrs. Dawson, and Mri.-Joliffoj china stall, Mrs. Hbllie; sweet stall, Miss Hayivard. A cake- competition was superintended by Miss Humphries, and a flour-bag competition by Mrs. Barber. Tho Northern Milling Company is presenting two 501b. bags of flour to the lady who makes tho most original article from a flour-bag. Concerts have been arranged for each evening,' and aro to be contributed to by Miss Meek, Mrs. Leighton, Miss Hay ward, Mrs. J.' Hamilton (Wellington), Mis 9 Wilson (Wellington), Mr. Schmidt, and Miss Mosos. Mrs. Loighton was tlio, organiser of these entertainments. Other attractions were a gramaphono, Aunt Sally, nail-driving, quoits, etc. Mrs. Clere and Miss. Jones wero in charge of tho aftornoon tea. Tho success of the bazaar was largely due to tho organisation of Mrs. Barber, tho secretary. Mrs. T. M. Wilford opened the sale, and Mrs. Vivian Riddiford s little daughter Jocelyn presented her with a bouquet. Tho bazaar will be continued to-day. The opening of the season of the Wellington Star Boating Ctyb takes'placo this afternoon. Mrs. Holmea returned to the Wairarapa yesterday from a brief visit to Wellington. Mrs. James Allen has arrived in Wellington from Dunedin, and is staying at Miss Malcolm/s. Mrs. W. Wardoll (Mastorton,) is visiting Wellington. Mrs, M'Cracken (Greytown) returned yesterday from a visit to Wellington. Lady Stout returned to Wellington yesterday from tho south. Mrs. Henry (Mastorton), who has been visiting Wellington, returned yesterday. The monthly meeting of tho Wellington District W.C.T.U. waß held in tho Constable Street rooms on Thursday, Mrs. Boxall presiding. Two members from P.etone wjtsro among those present, and they - invited all mombers and friends to a garden party, to be hold on Octobor 15 at Mrs. Corner's, 89 Nelson Street, Petone. Correspondence was read and discussed in connection with "Unfermented Wine," "Tcmperanco Sunday," "Cradle Roll," and "Loyal Temperanco Legion." A paper entitled "Untruthfulness" was road by the secretary, and tho meeting olosed in tho usual way. Among tho visitors staying at the Grand Hotel are Miss Bagnall. Mrs. F. Girling-Ross, Mrs. E. M. Bakor. Mrs. Angus Gordon, Mrs. Stephens, Mrs. A. Campbell, and Miss J. 0. Footo, all or Auckland. I Miss Selig returned to Chrißtchurch yesterday from a visit to Wellington. Mrs. and Miss Selandcrs. and Miss Richmond arrived in Wellington on Thursday on their return from a visit to Australia. Thoy leave to-day for Nelson. At the recent competitions held at Palmcrston North, the pupils of .Miss Florence George, sister of Mr. A. A. Gcorgo, of Wellington, wwa particularly successful. They gained cloven firsts, three seconds, and Ato thirds, a championship gold medal (won by Mr. Psllisor), and a similar prize in tho children's section (won by Kathleen Brown). Mr. T. Loydon, also, did very well. Tho accompanist. Bliss Green, was complimented by tha judge. At no tinae doss tho kair require more atteatioa than in tho spring. Ball at Pahautanul. Tho annual ball given by tho Bono* diets of Pahautanui last night proved a success. Tho local hall was. decorated with palms, feriiß, and fliwers, which, with the dresses worn by the ladies piosent, made a scone lull of colour and) variety. Tho committee worked hard to make tho ball one of tho best ever held in tho district. Owing to tho;. number of dances, tho M.C.'s, Messrs. C. Brody and W.
