THE ART SHOW.
■. Art lovers who take an interest in the budding- idea of local artists will find a good deal to interest them in the New Zealand Academy's annual show, which is to bo opened to-morrow evening. In addition to the work of New Zealand -artists there are two remarkably fine paintings bv Honnington, the English artist, whan aro well worth everybody's inspection, and lend distinction to tho walls of tho academy. There are, too, some extromely laudable efforts in portraiture, which are sure to attract tho critical eye. The • committee has already bought ono picture for the coming National Gallery.--,;-It is a water-colour -by - Mr. Nugent Welch, the promising Wellington artist, entitled, "Tho Morning Muster," .an extensive landscape, nicely lighted, ; with a horseman and sheep in tho background. It is a painting quite away from Mr. Welch's usual stylo, and one which slows the decided advance the artist is making. •
