CHEAPENED.

THE CITY ELECTRIC LIGHT. As from October 1 (Tuesday last) the price of electricity for lighting purposes has been reduced, and tho scale'of discounts have been readjusted in favour of the consumer. This.has been dono in accordance with a resolution passed by the City Council some six or eight weeks ago. In tho past, consumers of olecfcricat energy for lighting purposes have been charged lOd. per unit, minus a varying scale of discounts ranging from 3d. to 4d. per unit. Under this scale the moderate consumer —which included practically all householders-<-rc-ceived 3d. per unit discount on from 1 to 200 unitg. From the latter quantity to 215 units the discounts roso fractionally to 3Jd. per unit-, and remained steady at that unil tho 300 unit mark was reached, 'l'henco on to 325 units tho discounts roso Until at that quantity tho consumer was entitled to 4d. per unit, at which mark it r.omained up t0.750 units; From 750 to 1000 units the discount was 4£d., and from 1001 units upwards, sd. per unit. Under tho new arrangement the prieo of electricity has been reduced from lOd. to Bd. a unit, with a new scale of discounts. These are as follows: — ' Table A—From 1 to 200 units, 2d. Table B—From 201 to 300 units, 3d. Table C—From 301 to 500 units, 3*d. Table D—From 501 to 750 units, 4d. Table E—From 751 to 1000 units, 4Jd. Tablo F—From 1001 upwards, sd. As tho bulk of the individual consumers in .Wellington como under Table A, it is pointed out that tho new soale does not tend to encourage tho payment of accounts before discount day. That is to say that tho prico of electricity is reduced 2d. per unit to the person who does not pay promptly, and only Id. to those who do. Tho accounts which have been issued since Ootober 1 sets out in full tho new scale of discounts.
