Tho chartered steainor Willochra, noiv relieving tho Aorangi, will bo withdrawn on arrival at Sydney on November 11, it having been deemed Edvlsablo to engage this largo steamer in the intercolonial service during the_pross of the summer season. The Aorangi is'to resume on November 29, when sho is eched- . ule-d to sail from Sydney for Wcllingt-on and Sari' Francisco. The vessel is due here on December 4 • MESS-TABLE GpSSIP. ' The Bluff Harbour Board lias notified the Marine Department that the beacons Nos. 1. 2, and 3 -were wrongly placed on tho Admiralty Charts previous to date October, 1912. . No. 1 beacon (red pile) on tho new chart has been plotted 50 yards 98 deg. (S. 64 dog. E. magnetic) of the position ae> previously shown on the older chart; No. 2 beacon (red pile) 23 yards 36 deg. (N. 54 deg. E. magnetic), and No. 3 beacon (red, pile) 259 deg. (N. 83 dez. W. magnetic) of the position as previously shown. All three bo'aoons are efurmounted by 4 Utfwatched white fixed lights. Tho other Bheet charts of tho New Zealand coast aro mostly from surveys made between tho years 1849 and 1055 by 11 .M.S. Ancheron and H.M.S. Pandora. A large portion .of the. Penguin the official longitude of tho Dominion lias been adopted; whereas all the other coast charts still keep to the lonijitude based on tlio determination of a few years back. In transferring positions or courses from one chart to another, therefore, it. Is advisable to plot the bcarins and dlstanco from &ome poiut of land, Tatter than to use the actual latitude and longitudo given on the chart.
