LORD ROBERTS'S BIRTHDAY.
THE GRAND OLD MAN OF THE BRITISH ARMY. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright London, September 30. Field-Marshal Lord Roberts received hundreds of world-wido birthday congratulations (ho was born at Cawnpore, India, on September 30, 1832). In a stirring message to the nation, he says: —" If they were my last words, I would say to the young men 'Arm yourselves.' Especially would I address myself to artisans who have been urged to refuse to perform military duties in war time. You will not extend your rights by shirking your duties. You are the capital, the lifo ; tho 'wealth of tho nation, and tho easiest. way of battering yourselves is to make Britain better. Assert your rights by defending your honour as Britishers and your liberties as citizens of th& Empire."
