Colonol H. 0. Knox, QuartermasterGeneral of the Defenco Forces, who was appointed in May, 1911, on loan from the Imperial Army Sorvico Corps, is returning to England next February, his term of leave expiring in April. Ho intends to retire from the service on. his return. Colonel A. W. Robin is returning to Neiv Zealand in December, after a term as Now Zealand representative at tho War Office, and will probably succced Colonel Knox, as Quarter-master-General of the Defence Forces. Admiral Sir George F. King-Hall paid an unofficial visit to tho TyEcr liner. Indrabarah in Sydney last week aud : congratulated Captain Hollingsworth. upon the splendid save effected after tho steamer had been ashore for over eight weeks on Rangitikoi Beach, New Zealand.

Mr. Charles Robinson, who has rotiied from the servico in tho Land and Deeds Department, was on Tuesday presented by tho staff with a purso of sovereigns and by, tho Wellington law clerks with a travelling rug. Mr. Robinson was one of tho early'pioneers of tho West Coast, serving on tho staff of the late Sir Julius von Haa6t, during his exploration of tho West Coast in tho early 'sixties.
