TRAINS TO LAMBTON.
A MUCH-DELAYED REPORT.
More than a fortnight ago Mr. W. H. D. Boll; M.P., sought to ascertain in t'he House of Representatives when the Departmental report on the petition of Manawatu surburban residents asking that certain trains would be run to and from Lambton Station would bo forwarded to. tlie Railways Committee? The petition in question, Mr. Bell stated, was presented somo weeks ago, and it was understood that' the Railways Committee was unable to" deal with it owing to the delay of the Railway Department in furnishing t'he report. The reply niade by the Minister for Railways (the.Hon. W. H. Herries) on September .17, was that the report would probably be finished during that week. When tho matter canto up in the flouso of Representatives yesterday Mr. Bell pointed out that the report had not yet come to light-. He.declared that the railway officials had purposely delayed their report because thr.v wcro ■reluctant to stake their professional reputations upon a statement which would be subject to review by the new General Manager. These officials had alwavs said that the running of trains' to Lambton Station was, impossible, and it was only fair that t'hey should be'prepared to si'ake their reputations upon a, statement supporting that opinion. He was afraid that tho Departmental officers had now slipped through his .fingers, and that he would get Mr. Hiley's report on the running of the trains instead of Mr. Hiley's report 011 tho Vcpaitmentil officers' objections. He regretted, that lie was not going to get the explanation to which his constituents and himself were entitled.
