The quarterly Court returns fo? Lower Hutt show that of £477 17s. Bd. sued for, £246 13s. 4d, was recovered. Civil fees oollccted amounted to £30 75., and-criminal fees and fines'to £61 14s. Civil cases heard totalled 29, and criminal 58. Of .tile latter cases 43 convictions' wero entered. The rosult of the last fortnightly competition in. connection with the Potono Working Jlen's Morris Tube Riflo Club was .as follows:—A claBS honours were won by P. M'Kee, and B class honours by J. Croft ( who established a club record by putting on fourteen consecutive bull's-ey^s. An accident befel Charles Martin, a; fitter employed at tho Gear Company's works, I'etono, on Tuesday. Ho was struck on tlio eye with a rivet. Mr. Loddor (chief engineer) took him to Wellington in his motor-car for treatment. There was a moderate attendance last evening at St! Augustine's Hall, Petone, when Mr. A. W. Hogg (Mastorton) lectured on "Tlio Defence Act." The Mayor (Mr. J.. W; M'Ewan) presided. At tlio conclusion several questions wore' answered, and a hearty vote of thanks was* accorded the speaker. A meeting of tho I'etouo Housewives Union was held last evening, when several now moiAhers were elected. Tho weeklv mooting of Hope of Petoinj Lodge. 1.0. G.T., was held last evening, flro. S. Taylor, C.T.,_ presiding. One new member was initiated, and another proposed. After business a recess, was granted to allow Bro. S. Taylor and Bro. T(. Parkin to arrange tho item for tlio evening. Upon resuming, songs and recitations were rendered by visiting members, and also a dialogue entitled "A Midsummer's .Test.
