Mr. E. H. Clark has given notice to ask the Attornoy-Goneral whether ho will extend the powers of tile Publio Trustee and his agents so as to enable them to execute the transfer and draw-ing-up and releasing of mortgages of properties •up to the value' of £10Q0, ancf thus prevent the public from' being legally robbed by some unscrupulous lawyers. In the Chalmers district,' ho 6tated, a widow, an old-age pensioner, was charged £7 7s. for the releasing of ail ordinary mortgage , of a property valued at about £350.
