PANIC ON BOARD A STRANDED
STEAMER,

The steamer Mohawk, belonging to tlio Manhattan Steamship Company, grounded near Pougbkeepsie, 70 miles from New York, on tho left bank of tho Hudson. There were three hundred passengers aboard. They became panic-stricken, and several were injured in tho rush for tho boats. Tho officers restored order. Other craft removed all ashore safely. Collapse of tho steering-gear caused tho accident.
