THE KITCHEN STRIKE.
EPISODE IN A HOTEL. A strike' of' a. mild! nature occurred Bt one of the leading city hotels on Monday evening, : but ended without causing any serious inconvenience. A man, who had been acting as chief cook in the hotel, was superseded, but by the generosity of the proprietor he received the samo wages as tho chief. He, however, considered ho had a eriovtince through his loss of rank, ana protested against being reduced. His protest was followed by action, and on ■Monday about half an hour before dinner should havo been ready tho iwts Were discovered to contain water that was boiling away merrily without the poultry, vegetables, etc. The manager of the establishment overcame the difficulty by arranging that somo of _ his guests should dino at the hotel right opposite, and tho. remainder were attended to at home as soon as matters in the kitchen could bo set in order. The union was not .in -sympathy with the striker®, and, so the trouble did not last long.
