The Bishop of Wellington's engage' monts during October include nine con-' firmation services at St. Paul's, St. Marie's, St. Thomas's, Carterton, Greytown, Pctono, Hawera, Marton, nnd Brooklyn; the institution of tho Rev. Leonard Herbert Fenu at Pahiatua, on October 20, and a meeting of tha C.15.M.5. Dominion executive at Wellington on October 22. In November his Lordship will conduot ten more confirmation sorvices, and will attend a meeting of examiners of the Board of Theological Studios at Wellington on November 19.
Tho Acting-Commandant of the Dim fenco Forces, Colonel Heard, will leava for Auckland early next week to lecture to the officers in that city. Subsequently he will proceod to Hamilton, and will then do some reconnoitring in preparation for tho next 'officers' stau ride.
Mr. E. H. Hiley, the new General Manager of Railways, and Mrs. Hiley' aro at present staying at the Royal Oals Hotel.
Colonel J. K. Cochrane, Direotor o( Military Operations, who has bee if visiting tho Hawke's Bay district, liaj returned to Wellington.
Mr. A.: M. Myers, M.P, for Auckland 1 East, intends to leave on a vißife to tho Old Country in about a month.
Captain R. S. Taylor, of the London Salvage Association, arrived in Wellington from Auckland yesterday afternoon by tho Main Trunk express.
Mr. D. M. Yeats, headmaster of the Hutt District High School, is resigning from the service of the Wellington' Education Board, and will bo released from duty at tho end of January next. At yesterday's meeting of tho board a resolution was passed expressing appreciation of Mr. Yeat's services.
Mr. H, E. White, architect, arrived in Wellington yesterday afternoon on business in connection with tlie Auckland inhibition. On Thursday ho is to leave for Wanganui to be present at the completion of a theatre which ho is building there. From Wanganui Mr. White returns to Auckland.
The Hon. D. Buddo, M.P., _ arrives from the south by the Wahino this morning.
The Hon. Edward Richardson and Mrs. Richardson are both soriously ill, The latter has been unconscious fot some time.
Mr. A. A. Paape takes up duty as organising seorotary to the Political Reform League to-day, and Mr. R. Shallcrass will assume the secretarial duties of the Sports' Protection League (vice Mr. Paape) as from to-day.
Mr. G. 0. Sutton, publio. accountant, Panama Street, has beon appointed seorotary of the recently-formod Wellington Central Chamber of Commerce, and has already taken up the duties attaching to the position.
From to-day the Under-Secretary for* the Department •of Internal Affairs (Mr. James Hislop) becomes Chief Electoral Officer for New Zealand, and Mr. G. G. Hodgkins, late Registrar of Births, Deaths, and Marriages, Deputy Chief Electoral Officer. Mr. W. W, Cooke takes up his duties as Regis-»j trar of Births, Deaths, and with Mr. J. Palethorpe as his deputy.

In tlio House of Representatives yestorday throe days' leave of absence were granted to Mr. A. M. Myers, four days' leave of absence to Mr. T. H, Davej'j and an equal period to Mr. T. M. Wilford (on account of illness), two days' leave of absence wero granted to Mr. Lauren son.

Two Auckland representatives of tha Anoient Order of Foresters, Mr. Jamea Sh'aldrick, District Cliief Ranger; and' Mr. R. Darlow, District Secretary, ara visiting Wellington to place their views before tho Parliamentary Committoo which is inquiring into the claim® of tho Friendly Societies for State subvention.
The Rev. G. F. Cecil do Cartaret, Vicar of Christ Church, East Green-' wich, and Rural Dean of Greenwich, who was a member of tho General Mission of 1910 in tho Wellington Dioceso, being especially connooted with tho parishes of St. Mark's and Karori, has boon appointed Assistant-Bishop in Jamaica, in succcssion to Dr. Joscolyne, resigned. Ho is to bo consecrated on October 18, in St. Paul's Cathedral, or in Westminster Abbey.
Thirty-two applications were received for the position of harbourmaster at Gisborno (states a Press Association telegram). Tho board narrowed tho choice to two: Captain Gillman, of tho steamer Matatua, and Captain Benton, of the Ihumata, and is awaiting a reply from the former at Adolaide as to whether ho can talco tho appointment forthwith.
