HUTT ROAD.

QUESTION OF CONTROL. Tho question of tho control of the Hutt Road was mentioned at last night's meeting of the Pctone Borough Council. The Minister of Railways notified the council that tho proportion's in which tho cost of contribution and maintenance are to bo borne have been gazetted and that control ■of the road has been vested in the City Council.' The Government was, however, prepared to consider, proposals for vesting the road in a board constituted of representatives from all the local bodies. Tho Town Clerk of Wellington wrote, convening a meeting of representatives of local bodies to consider the questions connected, with tho control and maintenance of the road, and the Government proposals. Tho Mayor of Petone (Mr. J. W. M'Ewan) remarked that the policy of tho council liird been to disclaim liability for tho cost of the road .\ Ho would attend the coiiference, but would not commit tho council in any. way whatever.
