ATHLETIC SPORTS.

CRICKET; BOYS' LEAGUE & THE SENIORS. Mention was made at tho annual meeting of the Boys' Cricket League, held on Saturday, of tho fact that tho Wellington Cricket Asspciutiou had no connection with tho League. This was considered most unsatislactory, as tho Boys' League was an excellent training ground for the future senior players. Several of last year's Wellington representatives had practically commenced their cricket in tho League. Mr. AV. Walton, president of tho League, considered that, as tho association will expect to got future players from tho Leaguo, they should get some general help from the association. Ho also made reference to tho pitches which last season were not vory good, and expressed the opinion that the City Council should grant better pitches on which to train' tho boys. After discussion it was resolved to approach tho Wellington Cricket Association, with a view to securing genoral assistance. Mosßrs. W. Walton, F. Bowles, and A. E. Smith were thereupon elected a deputation.

The eighteenth annual report of the Wellington Junior Cricket Association states:—The following entries were received for the Senior Grade:—Evans Bay, Anglican, Catholic, Thorndon, Wadestown, Miramar, kilbirnie, and Athletic. Evans Bay and Kilbirnie maintained leading positions throughout tho season, and a final' match on Newtown Park: between these two clubs resulted in Evans Bay winning the competition. Entries wero numerous for tho Junior Grade, and so were divided into two divisions as follow: —"A" — Wanderers, Evans Bay, Harbour Board, Catholic, K.Y.M.1., Kilbirnie, and Athletic. " B "—Kirkcaldio's, Anglican. D.1.C., Thistle, Berhampore, Union. It was decided that "A" and "B " sections should play semi-finals and finalt. Evontually Kilbirnio and Evans Bay teams played a final game, which resulted in a win f or Kilbirnie. •The Evans Bay and Kilbirnie Clubs are to 'be congratulated upon tho fine form shown throughout the season. A representative match was played with the Manawatu Cricket Association at Palmei'ston North at Easter, and a very pleasant raateh resulted in a draw, vory much in your representatives' favour, as the following scores will show:—Wellington, first innings, 121; second innings, 214. Manawatu, first innings, 111; second innings, 6 for 120. For the first time in the history of the association an elective management committee was chosen. During the season the cost of preparation of wicketß was raised by tho City Council, consequently ground fees charged to clubs had to bo higher, but no difficulty was experienced in arranging same. Your committee wish to place on record its appreciation of tho services of Mr. C. E. Bennett, as secretary during a considerable number of seasons. Mr. E. Thomas, win was appointed in Mr. Bennett's placo .as secretary, also did 'good work, and it is to bo regretted that he cannot continue in office, owing to removal from the city.
