'' THEFT FROM CHINESE STORE. James North was charged before Mr. W. G. Riddoll, . S.M., at tho Magistrate's .Court yesterday, with having stolen (1) 16 calces of tobacco Valued av Bs., and (2) 22 cakes of tobacco valued' at lis., tho proporty of Young Jung. Accused pleaded guilty to both offenceß and was fined -lOs.j in default 14 days' imprisonment. THE MAN'S MENTALITY. Wm. Carlson appeared on remand in answer to a charge of having committed an aggravated aßsaulton a woman. Tho acoused was further remanded until October 6, in order to permit of his being examined as to £is mental condition. MAINTENANCE CASES. Ernest Wm, Grant was ordered to pay £1 per week, towards the support' of bis wife and three children. Albert Robinson was. sentenced to foven days' imprisonment for failing to comply with a maintenauco order. For similar lapses Joseph Flanagan was sentenced to sis months' imprisonment, Wilfred Qarrot to 'seven days' imprisonment, and Eleanor Hatfield was fined 40s. Emma Baldwin was granted a separation order-from her husband, Walter Baldwin, and defendant was ordered to pay 15s. per week towards tho support of 'his wife. ' OTHER COURT CASES. Fines of Ds. on each of two charges of allowing a horso to wander were imposed on Thomas Torpey James Storenson, who was found in the Cricketers' Arms Hotel, when such premises were obliged to be closed, was lined 10s., with costs 7s. Peter Mulcahey was fined 10s. for insobriety. For similar offences two first offenders wore fined 20s. each, ono was iiiiod 10s., and four others wero fined five shillings each. Terence Smith who had a leng list of previous oonviotions for Insobriety, was sent to the Roto Roa Inebriates Home for one year. Kathleen Brady was deemed to be a rogue and a vagabond, and was sentenced to sis months' imprisonment.
