EMPRESS THEATRE.
"Out of the Past" is tho feature picture at the Empress Theatre. It describes the wrong-doings of a young man. In this case tho principal is tempted into selling important official documents to get money Ao furnish nourishment and treatment for his dying mother. The temptress is a woman who in after years reappears in the role of a blackmailer. Tho man has prospered, and is about to embark on a political career. Ho announces his intention of exposing the methods of the directors of a big cop-per-mining company. The woman is closely associated with the directorate of tho company. To savo herself and her friends she tells tho budding politician that if he makes tho speech she will publicly denounce him for his misdeeds of tli'o past. Tho man is momentarily staggered b,y the threat, but he resolves to see tho matter through. At a garden party tho adventuress loses a bangle, which is found and recognised by tho mail's brother-in-law as part of tl'io proceeds of a burglary. When confronted by tho brother-in-law tho woman readilv promises that she will desist from her intention to denounco her intended victim if sho is permitted to go free. The offer is accepted. Other good pictures are: "I was Meant for \ou" (A.13. drama), "Come Seben Leben" (comedy)', and "New Zealand Animated News."
