WELL KNOWN AUSTRALIAN EDITOR RETIRING. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright ■ (Reo, September 29, 0.25 a.m.) Sydney, September 28. Dr. F,' W. Ward, editor of the "Sydney Daily Telegraph," has announced his retirement at the end of the year. The only reason ho gives for retiring is that ho considers that ft- ,younger man should tako on the responsibility, Mr. Frederick William Ward l , LL.D. (Honorary graduate of Glasgow University) is accounted one of tlho ablest journalists in Australia. Ho is a New Zealander by birth (1819), and was for .some time in the Wesleyan Ministry, which he left for journalism. He was editor of tho "Telegraph" from 1885 till .1890, when he resigned and went to London. Afterwards lie became editor of the " Brisbane Courier," then associate editor of the " Melbourne Argus." Ho resumed the editorship of tho Sydney Daily Telegraph/' in 1903.
