MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
TIME FOR REFLECTION. Frank O'Brien Gillespie, a young man with a number, of previous' convictions against him for theft, appeared before Mr. AV. G. Itiddell, S.M., at tlio Magistrate's Court on Saturday for sentence on two charges of theft. Addressing the prisoner, the Magistrate said'ho regretted, for Gillespie's own sake, that owing to tho nature of the offence, he had no power to sentence him to a period of reformatory treatment. Prisoner hjid been convicted on a number of occasions this year for theft, and it was necessary for him to give his position serious thought. He would bo sentenced to one tnontli's imprisonment on each charge; sentenco to be concurrent. OTHER OASES. On a charge of stealing tobacco to the value of Bs., the property of Young Jung, Joseph North was remanded untu Tuesday. ' The accused, who pleaded not guilty, was allowed bail in tlio sum of £5. Lena Petersen, who pleaded guilty to a charge of escaping from tho Salvation Army Home, where she had been detained for reformatory treatment, said that she would much rather go to gaol than back to the home. The Magistrate, however, sent accused to gaol for 14 days, and ordered that upon completion of the sentence she sliould bo returned to the home.
Harry Jones, charged with having created a breach of the peace, was fined 20s. wit!h the option of a week's imprisonment. For having used obscene language in a public placo Donald Lloyd wa-s fined £3 with costs, 4s. Gcorgina Perrett, charged with' importuning, was sent to the Salvation Army Homo for six months. Harry Leddy was fined £1 for insobriety.
