Colonel Arthur Hamilton Russell, father of the lato Sir Win. Russell, was very intimately connected with Wellington in the early days. As a captain in the 58th Regiment, whiclt arrived here from Sydney in 1845, lie was immediately concerned in the makwas concerned ill the making of several of the best-known roads leading out of Wellington into the country, and the files of newspapers published in the later forties contain many, of his progress reports.
