Dalton gave notice of intention to acquire tho freehold of Section 5, Block I, Hunua (Tapui VS.), on deferred' payment, and the time prescribed for payment 'of the deposit having expired on September 16, it was resolved to accept tho payment tendered on September 23. Miscellaneous Matters. S. W. Norrish applied to surrender his grazing tenancy of Lot 1, Hall-.ToneS Settlement, comprising 23 acres, and John Bentlcy having-agreed to accept the tenancy on tho same terms and conditions, it was resolved to approve of tho surrender, and issuo of permit to Mr. Bentley. It was resolved to offer Robert Lilburn a year to year leaso of Crown land Section 19, Block V, Tiriraukawa. 8 acres 1G poles, at an annual rental of J33. •Win. Tonks applied to acquire part of Town Aero 203, City of Wellington, containing 1.1 pole, being a small strip of land adjoining his property, and bisecting a brick building owned by tho applicant. It was resolved to sell tho land to him, under Section 131 of Tho Land Act, 1908. for .£l5O 103. It was resolved to accept the surrender of H. Adamson's permit to occupy Sections 51-54 Nirealia Village, and approve ,of H. E. Watts being granted a permit to occupy these sections from year to year, at a rent of £2 2s. per annum, subject to usual conditions, and determination at any time. S. Johhson wrote with reference to tho milling restrictions on Section 25, Block X, Hunua, and it was resolved to accept tho surrender by Mr. Adsett of his interest in the timber lice.nso over this section, and to recommend that the license to occupy tho land bo issued to Mr. Johnson forthwith. The Lower Hutt Borough Council applied for protection of amount duo for rates on Section 84, Normandale Settlement, tho amount due being .£8 14s. Gel., and it was resolved to approve of an amount equal to two years' rates being paid ont of the improvement moneys when tho same are available. It having been resolved to accept tho surrender of portion of Run 24, Block 111 and 11, Sandy S.D., containing 101 acres 2 roods, for tho purpose of planting with marram grass, conditional on Government requiring the area, and the Government having now intimated that the area is required, it is ilnally resolved to approve tho acceptanco of surrender, and to call in the licenso for amendment accordingly. It was resolved to give R. W. Laird notice of determination of temporary permit to occupy Section 9, Block XIV. Momohaki, 7 acres 3 roods. It was resolved to approve of Whaka-rata-Tuwharetoa being granted a permit to occupy part of Waimarino A Block, about 100 acres, being the nrea ho has grassed, until such time as it is required for settlement, at a rent at the rato of •C 5 per annum, subject to usual conditions, and that notico bo given to him that he is not to clear any moro laud in that block. It was Tcsolvod to approve of; Section 3a, Block 11, Hunua, 200 acres, being offered under Part 111, Land Act. 1908, in terms of ranger's report. C. E. Hook applied tor a lease for site of an accommodation house where shown on ijlan 29066/1, and it was resolved to
grant him a license to occupy it under Sections 307 and 308 of Tho Laud Act, I'JOS, for a term of seven'yoars, at a rent of JC2 per annum, subjcct to inisal conditions, flicro to be no compensation for improvements, except as may be arranged hereafter. It was resolved that the rent to bo paid by C. J. liyan for a new seven-year liceiiso of Section 1, Block VI, Ilunua, be i!l2 103. per annum. Dr. W. J. Feltliain having applied for a leaso oC Sections 1 and 10, Oliakuno Township, it was resolved to grant him a leaso lor a term of tivo years at a rental of jCG per annum, with compensation for such improvements as may bo approved to bo paid by tho incoming tenant in tho event of tho lease'passing to another person. It was Tesolvod to approve of Messrs. Geo. Byrne and Co. being granted a permit to mill the timbor on Sections 9 and 10, Block XVI, Horopito V.S., at a royally of £17 10s. 11. Mackay, whose application for Section 5, Block XII, Mhirinaki, was.approved on August 28, applied for a rofund of his deposit, as ho did not wish to proceed with, tho occupation of tho land, and it was Tesolved to doclino. J. T. Doreon made a similar application in respect of Section 2, Block XII, Whirinaki, the land having been allotted to him on August 28, and it vras resolvod to decline.
J. P. Matthews, who has bceii' squatting" on Sections 123 and 126, Manunui V.S., applied to exchange some Native land in tho Auckland district for them. and.it was resolved to decline, mid offer the land for sale at prices to bo fixed. Tho ranger roported having resumed possession, of Section 19, Block I, Kakahi V.S., 3 roods 8 poles, and submitted a scheme for subdivision thereof. It was resolved to npprovo of the scheme, and to obtain fresdi valuations of the subdivisions upon survey. J. M'Lonnan applied to purchase or lease a small area of Crown land between tho back of Section 19, Block 11. rimu Township and Poro Street, and it was resolved to grant him a leaso for five years at. a rental, of 10a. per tuinum, subject to usual conditions. Messrs. Geo. Symo and Co., Sawmillors, applied to mill about 40 acres of bush on Crown lands, Block XVI, Mauganui, and it was resolved to obtain an appraisement from the ranger of the 40 acres and tho timber on Sections 13-16 and 21, Block XVI, llanganui. . • It was resolved to terminate r. IV. Jensen's permits to occupy Crown land Sections 4, 7, 8, 9, 13, 14, 17, 18, 19. and 21 G acres 2 roods 20 poles, and Reserves Sections IG, 23, 24, 5, 8 .acres 9 poles, Umutoi Village, and invito tenders for new leases thoreof. Jas. Kearney, whose grazing tenancy of Mawaihakoiia Township, has been altered by the formation of streets thereon, applied for a readjustment of rental, and submitted ail offer of .£3 per annum with conditions, for keeping noxious weeda in' check and removal, of fencing upon determination of tenancy. It was resolved to accept the otfer, and to advertise for lots for sale by public auction for cash when tho road formation is finished. J. F. Heckler wrote objecting to tho Tent proposed to be charged for Education Itosotvc Section 112, Block XIV, Mangaone, 293 acres 1 rood, and asked that the rent .for renewal of lease be fixed b,v arbitration. It was decided to agree to this course, and to appoint Mr. J. B. F. Sutherland, Crown Lauds Hanger, arbitrator on behalf of the Crown. It was Tesolved to allow E. Ingram to temporarily occupy Education ReserTO Section 325, Foxton Suburban, 4 acres 1 rood 10 poles, from year to year, no rent to bo charged tho first year, provided he clears and keeps clear the section of. all noxious weeds. Rent for second year to be £i. , It was resolved to allow S. S. Addenbrooko to surrender his present lease of Section 3, Block VII, Mangawhero (E.R.), and to issue a fresh lease for tho remainder of the present term, which expires on December 31, 1919, at a rental of .£145 Bs. 10d., with perpetual rights of renewal. It was resolved, in pursuance of a former resolution of the board, dated November 2G, 1903, to sell Section 29, Block 11, Mt. Cerberus, 1 acre, to the Wellington Education Board, at the price of X 2 is. 6d., in trust,-as a site for a public school. The Wanganui' Education . Board asked that as the present school site, Scction.2, Block IV, Raurimu Township, is unsuitable. it be exchanged for another site on Crown kinds. It was resolved to leave the matteij in the Commissioner's hands. It was resolved to.' authorise the laying off of a school site of about 5 acres on Crown lands, Section 3, Block I, Hunua, in the position indicated by the ranger on 28594)16, and to recommend that it bo reserved for that purpose. It was resolved to recommend that Section -7, Oliakune V.S., 5 acres, bo permanently sot aside as a Gravel Eeserve. Tho Mauricevillo County Council submitted proposals for expenditure of J512 Os. 11:1., accrued thirds which were approved subjcct to investigation by the ranger, and so far as tho amount is still available.

Kelly was granted leave to sell or sublet his interest in Section 21. ■ Block 111. Hawtrey Settlement, on account of ill-health. Major H. I'. Tunuiorangi applied to select one of tlio subdivisions of the Hnrupi Block, and it was resolved: to inform him that there is no power to grant him any subdivision of tlio block without being submitted to ballot. The question of recommending that all tho unmillcd bush on part Section 10, Block V, Karioi, bo felled, was considered, and it was resolved to ask for authority for tho carrying out of this work as soon as possible, and before Deoomber 10 next. Tho application of H. Osborne to transfer Section 1, Block X, Makotuhu, 215 acres 3 roods 2 polos, to John Handley, jun., was approved. "W. M. Gunn applied to bo allowed to select 150 acres Crown lands in Blocks X and XIV, Makotuhu, known as Tupapanui No. 2, without competition, being the owner of adjoining land. It waS rfr solved that the application be declined, and the laud offered to public competition.'
