(£5) - 7 2 6 TIIE AMERICAN TARIFF. In anticipation, of the alterations in the tariff of the United States there were huge accumulations of goods in bonded warehouses. At the end of the financial year merchandise in bond showed a larger value than., ever before, the total being £21,200,000, against £14,410,000 at tnc corresponding date last year. Of sugar, for example, there were 778,CCO,COOib. in bond on June 3», arainst 205,0c0,c001b. twelve montl>6 earlier. Of leaf tobacco the quantity in bonded warehouses wats 52,CC0,CCClb., against 34,000 0001b., and of wool the amount was 78,000,C001h., against 59, OCO,OOOIb. Other principal articles of which the quantity stored was unusually largo wcro manufactures of wool, fibre, eilk. iron, and steel, and of the total in bond all except £300,000 worth was dutiable. The value of tlio' raw wool warehoused \v<ts £3.700,000. of which £1,800,000 wortli was at Boston. The value of imported merchandise in bontfcdi stores was more than double that In warehouses immediately prior to the enactment of the tariff laws - of 1890 and 1894, five times greater than in l 1897, and about 20 per cent. Larger than in 1909. DUNLOP RUBBER CO. The directors of tho Dunlop Rubber Company of Australasia, Limited, have decided, subject to audit, to declare a dividend, which will, with tlio interim dividend already paid, make tho distribution for the year onded July 31 as follows: —Ten per ccnt. on tho preference shares, 9 per cont. on tho deferred non-cumulative preference shares; 10 per cent, on tho ordinary shares. PUBLIC ACCOUNTANTS. Tho annual report of tho Australasian Corporation of Public Accountants, to bo presented at tho sixth annual meeting on September 29, shows that there was a net gain or 22 members in the year, and thero are now 469 members, 176 in tliia State. 172 in Victorian, 36 in South Australia. 32 in Ourensland, 27 in West Australia, 12 in Tasmania, 4 in New Zealand, and 10 honorary fellows. Tho wheat market is depressed, owing to tho weakness of the American markets, and tho pressure which forced _ Russian down bv 3d. 365. 3d. was asked for an Australian cargo off coast, and 355. for a new crop, January-February shipment. The Now Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Com-pany, Limited, have received the following cablegram from their London house under date September 24:—Wheat: Sold an Australian cargo at £1 16s. 3d. c.i.f.
