» NORTH WAIRARAPA MEETING. (Bv Tolozrraph.—Spcolal IVjrreeuoiKicnt.) Masterton, September 25. _Tho sixth annual meeting of the North Wairarapa Rifles Association was opened at Fairview Rangci to-day. The weather was favourable, with a northeast wind from live to twelve degrees blowing. The association had received ninety entries, including many of tho Dominion's best-known shots, but by tho timo shooting commenced, this number was reduced to seventv-iive. The 1913-14 rifle shooting season is to bo opened at Trentham oil Saturday, October 4. The feature of the day will he a function by the Karori Riflo Club. Tlio club' proposes to open the season with a Parliamentary match— North Island members v. southern members. The M.P.'s will bo the guests of tho club at Trentham, and at tho club's invitation the Minister for Defence (the Hon. J Allen) will fire the .first shot and formally declare tho season open. Tho conditions of the opening match are: —Ten men each side; ranges s 3oo and 500 yards; seven shot at each; the club providing the rifles and ammunition. In a similar match last year, the North Island members only just won. On October 11 tho club will fire a match, between teams selected by tho president and deputy-president of the club. Tho match for Mr. W. H. Tisdall's trophy is to be fired oil October 18. The Karori Club's championship will begin on October 25. Several new members have joined, and the prospects point .io a successful season. Tt is understood that Rifleman E. Ealliday ail ex-New Zealand champion, who did not shoot last season, will bo on tlio range this season. DOMINION SHOOT. The New Zealand Riflo Association's meeting is to commenco on tho Trentham rifle rauge on February 26, 1914. The provisional programme has been drawn up and submitted to the various members' of the executive for consideration. The silver challenge cup, presented to tho association by tho. Colonial Ammunition Company, Auckland, is at present on view in Messrs. Stewart Dawson and Company's window in Willis Street. The cun, which was made by local silversmiths, is a handsome one, and takes the form of a service shell. On the top is a miniature soldier worked in silver, and against tho cup are t.hroo lons rifles. The cup is about 2-1 inches in height, and the presort holder and first winner, of it, is the Opalci Rifle Olnb, which came out on top at the 1913 meeting of the association. '
