London, September 23. Sir Edward Carson and General Sir William Adair (Sir Edward's AdjutantGeneral) inspected several contingents of Ulster Covenanters; also _ many nurses and motor corps tuid dispatch carriers.

Tho "Pall Mall Gazette" (Unionist) says it is important that communications should be informally exchanged between the Ministerial and Opposition leaders. Tho prospects of an attempt at a compromise havo improved. The "Westminster Gazette" (Liberal) declares that it is the business of tno Government 'to stand firm against threats, while renewing the offer to discuss a settlement with all opponents.

THE PROVISIONAL GOVERNMENT.

Five hundred delegates attended the Unionist Conference at Belfast to-day, and considered the report of tho Commission of Five in favour of the formation of a Provisional Government for Ulster. Tho indications aro that_ tho plans will be ratified with enthusiasm. According to tho "Daily Mail," the Ulster volunteer force now exceeds 50,000 men.
